Finely German made flatter with long hickory handle

Used to smooth and flatten surfaces. Also used to sharpen corners on bent areas and flatten knives.

Since its main purpose is to flatten it was not considered important for this tool to be perfectly square with the handle. In many cases the handle was actually cane or wire wrapped around the head rather than a wooden handle. Check your old flatters to see if they have notches where the cane would wrap around.
